How to be C.R.A.S.E.
Now, i know that you are dying to become one of C.R.A.S.E. (pronounced as crazy), but first you must know how exactly to work the C.R.A.S.E. funk. First you should probably know that C.R.A.S.E. stands for Chelene, Reanna, Adrianna, Sam, and Emily. The founders of this marvelous middle school circus clan were myself and my friend Sam. The next to be introduced into... us, was Reanna. Now i must first say that reanna absolutely loathed Sam, the reason for that being that in 6th grade I always hung out with Reanna and other Sam, Sam Sepulveda, and we were all best friends, it was great... and then Sam Portillo came. I started to hang out with her and she was hated by Sam S. and Reanna for 'stealing me away'. Eventually I convinced them to give her a chance, and all was well. Next to be conjoined with the freak show of C.R.A.S.E. was Chelene, we call her Chu-Chu, everyone calls her Chu-Chu. There is not much of a story there, other than the fact that we all loved her and just got her first, before all the other cliques (of evil). The last the join our charade of insanity was Adrianna. We all hated her so much. She was little witch. If she had something to say, she would say it, and if you stood in her way of that, well then you introduced yourself into a life threatening situation. She would bite your head off if you got any where near her. Naturally she became one of us! I'm not sure where along the road that happened, but it did! Okay enough with the history lecture, and onto the 'How- to'! Go!Firstly when you get to school, feeling all self-conscious of your new outfit or hairstyle or lip gloss, you must immediately go sit on the top of the stairs acting as nonchalant as possible. most likely, your friends will be coming around any moment, having already done several slow-moving laps around the school. They will run up the stairs and give you a big hug, and tell you- not ask you- to come walk with them, you will not have a choice unless you say 'its too hot/ cold'. In this case you must quickly suggest going to the cafeteria before they once again begin walking, towing you along with them. When you go to the cafeteria, the first thing anyone looks for is an ex- boyfriend of yours or someone elses'. They will then walk you to the table he's sitting at (assuming they saw your ex first) and leave you the last seat, right next to him. As you later walk away, your friends will gush to you about how they felt that the connection was still as strong as ever, even though you broke up a month ago because he cheated constantly (or something like that). Of course you must respond to this with the "I'm so over him! Was he really smiling as me?" rant, to please those who didn't like him, and those who did.
When the bell rings, you will dawdle in the cafeteria waiting for your friends to wrap up their conversation as you stand there sighing as loudly as humanly possible, ya' know, give them the hint. While you're all running up the stairs you will run into your guy friend and talk to him, knowing that behind your back, the rest of C.R.A.S.E. is making kissey faces about it because you've never really had too many guy friends before.you will then dash into Spanish class two seconds before the late bell after a tearful goodbye with one of C.R.A.S.E. as she departs to another class. Tragic. You slip into your seat next to (surprise surprise) your ex- boyfriend in the very back row. Ms. Lopez begins talking about the difference between conocer and saber and how to conjugate them but you've heard it before, so, though you love 'er, you begin to doodle. As the bell for second period rings, you and the rest of C.R.A.S.E. walk out together (other than Adrianna) and go to social studies. Chu-Chu can only walk you guys there and Reanna doesn't come at all, so we hug and then enter. You must then spend the first ten minutes of second period trying to convince Sam and Darcy (nearly a member of C.R.A.S.E.) to come sit at your table, while they do the same even though you both know that neither side will prevail. Mr. Olivas finally gets the class to shut up, and so you sit there zoning out for the rest of class, nodding vaguely when asked for 'the answer'. Walking to science you are accompanied by Adrianna. you talk and complain until given at least two detentions, when you finally give up and rely on vague nodding. Fourth period T.A. you are alone in terms of C.R.A.S.E., and very bored with the kindergartners. They are adorable, but so stubborn! Oh, well.
After fourth period is lunch, and lunch is FUN! All of C.R.A.S.E. is there, except for those with detention, and although your ex is there, so is everyone elses! You then all play some sort of twisted "truth or dare" while you throw food you don't want at your most hated teachers' cars (they unknowingly park immediately next to the small Ramada we all sit under). Once Truth or dare has died out, you poke fun at your friends by 'reminiscing' together about the awkward times between them and their ex. Ah, fun. Suddenly you must dive under the table while your friends throw their backpacks on top of you. The reason for this? Ms. So-and-so is coming with a list of the missing detention-ers and you're one of them. Of course she doesn't find you even if you move slightly, because your friends, loyal as they are, shift their feet to cover your noises and movement up. Usually though she comes back from the other side later and catches you that way... which kind of sucks but, you tried. The funny thing about lunch though, is that you only get 30 minutes, so when it rings you all start whining and yelling about "the stupid fickin bell" and how you "weren't done fricken eating, what the frick". The rest of the day goes by quickly, you barley notice it! You and Adrianna make fun of Ms. Hofmanns non- existent butt, but that is about all you remember. It is then required of you to clamber into your car whining for a Starbucks, but then you have fulfilled yourequirements for the day! Exhausting right? But fun. Oh! one last requirement- Your name must be Chelene Angle Lopez, Reanna Renee Leon, Adrianna Natali Something Something Rodriguez, Samantha Marie Porillo, or Emily Marigold Hall, but thats about it! you are know one of C.R.A.S.E.! Congrats!
Univeraity of Arizona: Home to many, Practically my 4th
‘Old Main’, the oldest building on the UA campus, stands as a figure of reminiscence.
Umbrellas stand open for student use outside of the ‘Student Union’, along with the “Arizona” bench. By now, I practically have my own!
Four fountains (that marble slab to the right being one of them) stand next to the student union.
Five students walk away from the administration building. Oddly that is like, the one building I’ve never been in.

Two baby wildcats, part of a larger statue, show-off the UA mascot. (May as well be my mascot too.)

Cacti make up the majority of Arizona’s wildlife, hence this garden…of cactus.
This sign tells you that these things are prohibited, but looking around, I strongly doubt it. In fact I’ve gone down that very lane/ road thing, biking and golf-carting several times!
These bikes lie in a bike rack next to the previously shown sign, but I have a feeling that someone rode it there!
Palm trees dot the entire UA campus, contrary to the cactus garden. After all, Palm trees=coast line, Cactus=desert, right? Apparently not.

College is for...
Who is college for? College is for anyone with the drive to do it, you have to be willing to work for it and try to just put yourself out there for your education. Some may say that college is for those with money, some say for those with the best grades, but really those things only play a small part in the issue. For the money issue, there are always loans you can take out, and although you may argue that you do have to pay them back, with college you get a better job, and a better job equals better money. As for the grades, well that is what college is for right? It is school and, even if you're grades aren't the best, there is something to be taken out of every single experience, such as college. In his article "Closing the College Achievement Gap", Doug Leterman says, "About half of low-income backgrounds go on to attend college, compared to about two-thirds of middle income Americans, and 80 percent of those with large incomes.". Why do you think that is? I think it is because it has been drilled into our heads that there is no way to even dream about college without the money. How sad is that! If we continue to think in that mind set then how will the poor ever get any money to got to college to get a job to get money to send their kids to college to get a job to get money, and so-forth. It is a vicious circle, until broken. Chloe Barthum, a student at the U of toA, says that college is for "people looking to get more education and get a better job... a better paying job." She is working to break the circle. I say college is for those with enough drive, because you do have work, you have to be prepared to take on the educational challenges, and go for it... well i wouldn't actually know, seeing as I'm 13, but thats what i gather... Help break the circle! Go for college!!Labels: college, who is college for?
the U of A is huge!
The U of A is like its own little planet where you can come and go. There are a lot of different kinds of different things: birds, cactus, people... I see a little boy ride on his bike, past an old man in his wheel chair. It's like in the cactus garden, seeing the tall spindly ocotillo stand next to the short, chubby barrel cactus. Also in the cactus garden are saguaro, prickly pear, jumping, and many other species that I cant identify, of cactus. as i was admiring the cactus garden, i saw a cactus wren run past a pigeon and nearly knock over a swallow-like bird, only emphasising the difference in... everything! A bit of a way away from the cactus garden are four marble slabs, at a slight angle back. Onto these marble slabs, several jets of water are being spouted in a small, upward arc. The sound the water makes against the marble is nice, kind of a soft, muted rush. Very soothing to me. Oops i ran out of time in my distraction at the water, Bye!Labels: U of A, UA, University of Arizona
6 room poem... thing (2x)
Poem OneRoad, sky, city, homes,
Border, plant life, landscape
Beyond that wall is an enemy,
Beyond that wall is America
The light washes over all,
but the fourth on the right escapes it.
To the silence I hear,
there is a sense of unease.
the silence is more than silence,
but a reason for the silence
A border, poverty, lost hope
Why does the dog stare?
Why do people feel such a need to posses?
I am disturbed at the sight of the wall,
sad for those on either side.

Poem Two
Plateau, clouds, scrawling landscape,
people, endless sky, fluid stillness
Black and white,
a play of sun across the clouds,
illuminating them especially.
Silence,
a soulful, peaceful one,
originating from the core
why is the road so empty?
where is everyone?
peace, familiarity, calm,
illumination

name story
Emily Marigold Hall. Emily Hall. Emily. All versions of my name. Now, this name that you have just read three times, it may be a bit bland, but it is my name and I like the history of it. To tell you the story, I have to start in the middle (the middle being my middle name). Its a cold November night and my mother is all but crawling down the road to her grandmothers house, clutching but a single seed in her chubby, young hand. The seed is that of a marigold. If she were to drop this seed, it would mean impending doom for all of eternity... Obviously, there is pretty much no truth to that story, but it managed to introduce the two main characters into the middle of... me. Those characters are my mother, and her grandmother Mildred Lucille. My mother- in childhood and adulthood alike- absolutely adored her grandmother, and one of her fondest memories with my great grandma was planting marigolds (a fluffy, frilly, yellow/ orange looking flower) in the garden. When my mother was a few months pregnant with me, she received the news that Mildred Lucille had passed away. Since she hadn't lived to see her first great-grandchild, my mother made her apart of me; made a living commemoration to her grand mother, through me and my middle name. Her fondest memory being the marigolds, it became my middle name in a beautiful yet tragic sort of way.
My first and last names are much simpler stories. My first name was not as popular in 1994 as it is now; if it was i don't think it would have been chosen. But all the story is, is that my mom picked my middle name, so my dad picked my first. I was not named after any one (as far as I've been told), my dad just liked the name. My mom suggested it I believe, because of her love for Emily Dickinson, the poet, and my dad just liked it. My last name I'm not so sure of. i know that it came from my dad, and his dad before, but I'm not even sure if it was my great-grandpas' before. Shallow, i know, but i am constantly getting my karma for not knowing my origins, as my teachers walk past me saying things like "Emily, no running in the hall" or "stay out of the hall...s!". They think that they are hilarious. They're not.
That is pretty much the end of the story for my name, or is it? I cant tell you where you may or may not hear this name in the future, but I can tell you that if you do hear of me, you will be hearing of a girl named Marigold. The reason for that being that I: A) think Emily is way to boring and common, and B) because i would like to honor my great grandmother who I never had the chance to meet and who loved marigolds.
Real intro a moi
Hey bloggers, my name is Emily Hall and I'm going to tell you a little bit about myself. Right now I am a writer trying to get my views and stories into the world. I see myself as kind of an uptight hippie. I see myself that way because I am a vegetarian (since birth, though now I'm the only one left in my family) and because I am Buddhist- Agnostic. Some things that I think set me apart from others are things like that I have undiagnosed ADD. ADD stands for Attention Deficit Disorder, which means that I just have a harder time staying on focus than other people. It is undiagnosed because my mom and I don’t want me to be tested. My mom, because she doesn’t want me to have a label, she doesn’t want my teachers and peers to look at me as “the ADD kid”. Myself for of those same reasons, and because I don’t want to be on a medication that will suck away my creativity.
Another thing that sets me apart is the fact that I am chronically depressed. Chronic depression runs in my family. It affects me because when I don’t have something to keep my mind occupied, I become afraid and sad and start to separate myself from others. It is not something that is obvious, I don’t think, because I do an okay job occupying myself. It affects me positively in a sense that I feel and know that there is a deeper meaning to everything. I'm not quite sure why those two things relate, but I know that they do. I'm also an introvert. For someone who really knew me, you would think i was an extrovert, but I'm really not. that is why my blog entries may be kind of... not boring, but just not as loud. I'll be pretty open, but I'll most likley have kind of a hard time expressing myself. Sorry. Oops, im out of time! More later!

Tell: my sister is annoying
My sister knows me like no other. She knows what of my buttons to push and when. She would do anything if she thought it would make me even remotely annoyed. One time she hit herself, gave herself a bruise and made herself cry, just so that i would get into trouble. I did, and all the while being smirked at, by her, while she was being 'comforted'. Jerk. I suppose I'm not the greatest sister in the world either, but i could be better... if she wasn't such a little sister! I still love her though (most of the time)Labels: show don't tell, sister
